The Perth Mint is located at 310 Hay Street, East Perth . It makes for a very educational and entertaining day out if you join in the guided tour of the grand old building. You can listen to the history of gold in Western Australia and how it dramatically shaped the future of this state.

 

Marvel at the grand scale of this heritage building, the original melting house and the heavily secured vault. You can even get your hands on a bar of gold!

 

Included in the tour is a traditional gold pour. The gold is melted at extremely high temperatures and then poured to form the all familiar gold bar. The colour of the melted gold is quite intense.

 

The mint has a few claims to fame: 1. It houses the world’s greatest collection of investment gold bars 2. It also houses Australia’s largest natural nugget collection

 

You can design your own message to go on a medallion as a memento to take home. Prices start from AUS $17 depending on whether you choose a gold-plated, pure silver or even pure gold medallion. The Perth Mint shop offers a great variety jewellery, gold nuggets and souvenirs to choose from.
